All the electric bicycles we have built have all been with front hub motors with one exception. The exception was Roland's secret weapon for Death Race 2007 this past April. He used 2 hub motors - front and rear. Roland and I finished at the same time - exactly the same time - his electric bike was bad ass.

So to answer your question - it's a personal preference in my opinion.

Hi. I'm new to this forum but hope I can help.

I've ridden extensively a 36v 400W motor ebike with the motor at the rear and I remember the first time I tried it, it was an awesome experience and although the entire bike weighed more than 70 lbs., you could feel a definite push from the motor. Recently, I've ordered another ebike with a front motor. A friend convinced me that maintenance of the front motor bike is a lot easier but am curious which will give more speed and range. As my friend w/ the front motor bike said, he bikes with a 2WD.

Can't wait for it to arrive.
I'll share more details when I've been able to test it extensively.
