Just a few words of encouragement to all new members. Feel free to say a few words here or "introduce yourself".....not required and no one will ban you if you don't! Please post ANY questions you have and we'll try to help. Nobody will call you dumbass or tell you you're "cluttering up the forums". FIRE AWAY! O.K., I'll go first....I'm Joe from the north eastern part of Ohio. I ride everything from a "regular" bicycle to a weedwacker powered skateboard (razor type scooter) to a Suzuki VL800 and several in between including a few motorized bikes I've built (military replica, 60's Western Flyer, 70's Murray). I also have one slow smooth friction drive....so smooth I ran out of gas twice already riding in a trance-like state for hours. I'm here to help and answer questions since I might as well spread the wealth of info I've gathered working on bikes since 1968 (of course back then I didn't know which end of a screw driver to hold, but that's a story for another time) Who's next? ok, my name is Donnie and I'm from Austin, Texas. I grew up in the mid-west but got down to Texas ASAP (I like the mid-west just not the snow) I have worked in the music business for the last 12 years, but gave that up 2 years ago when I got married, not really wanting to be on the road 9 months of the year anymore. I'm now a film producer here in Austin. My wife and I just got back from Bisbee, AZ where I saw this girl cruising around on a bad-ass bike. I tried to flag her down with no luck. So after a few days of asking around a local finally handed me Rolands phone number. I went out to his place that next day and bought my spookytooth. It should be here sometime next week and I can't flippen wait. I've been riding my 1960 Schwinn cruisier to work for the past few months, I'm looking forward to cutting my travel time down and having more fun on the ride..I'll be selling my car soon...have not drove it 1 time in a month !
anyhow, that's me in a nutshell.Im looking forward to talking to ya'll more when I get my bike
Later - Donnie

Thanks for the welcome. I just signed up today and ordered the Qurve. I ride a Harley 1200 Sportster, but I'm fascinated with these motor bikes. When I was a kid, there was a fellow living across the street from us who rode to work each day on a Wizzer. I've been anxious to ride one of these ever since. I live in PA, and I think I'll have to register, but I need to do more checking. Anybody else have to register?
Thanks again, Joel

Donnie, Joel, welcome. Glad you got the bug and then did something about it! These motorized bikes are a blast to ride and easy to work on. Definitely a different ride than a "regular bike" or a big motorized bike (like the aforementioned Harley) Feel free to ask anything and we'll try to supply answers....most of them right. I can't help with the registration answer though....it really depends on where you live (rural/suburban/urban) and attitude of the oplice in your area. I live in semi rural northeastern Ohio and have had no problems with the police (or anyone for that matter) in well ocver a thousand miles of riding various roads. Once again, welcome to this small but friendly forum, we're at the ground floor....going up!

Hey Y'all. I'm from Hereford, AZ and I have just realized that I WANT a motorized bike. I've been surfing all day and have learned quite a bit. I wss all set to run down to Bisbee and get one, but I understand they have closed their retail store. So, I guess it's Tucson or internet. I have a question: most of the bikes don't seem to have shock absorbing forks. Why not? Anyway, I can't wait to get one. See ya, B

B2- You can mount one up on a bike with front shocks....I'm thinking maybe a lot of the bikes with front shocks have the wrong kind of frame?
Oh yeah, welcome!

Thanks for the welcome!
Okay, so can you advise which frame I should get?
I am 5'10" female. I want to be able to pedal for excercise and then use the power when I get tired. I am thinking of commuting (17 miles one way) and also want to do general running around. I live on a county maintained road (you know they scrape it, its dirt and rock) about 1/4 mile off the paved road. Will I need bigger tires for the primitive road part?
I am not very mechanically inclined, but I did repair a dishwaher door that wouldn't stay up and replace a belt on a dryer by myself.
Is there something different about the handlebars on the Dresser over the Barebones and the Qurve? What is the advantage of the gears on the Qurve over the others? Is there an advantage of the spring fork over the rigid?
Finally, can I pick up my bike of choice in Tucson and will it be fully assembled?
Thanks for your help. B2

Hello BEAPPY2...
I purchased the Qurve for exactly the reasons you stated. It is equipped with the 7 speed derailleur, and this will be important for riding, as the bike with engine weighs 57lbs. My bike has just been shipped yesterday, so I'll probably see it this weekend or next week. I can give you more info then.

Joel wrote:the bike can be purchased fully assembled. Otherwise.. I ordered my Dresser fully assembled, fuck the bullshit... well worth the extra 150$ I also have a Dahon Espresso with a Tecumseh weed wacker over the rear tire, friction roller... it's cool but it eats tires like a motherfucker. Plus I have a Kinetic TFR moped. I don't trust it, I wiped out on my first outing... fuck India. I'm really looking forward to the Dresser. 80cc, chain drive... should be a blast.

Hello all,
I'm Travis, new to the forum and motorized bikes. I am certainly not a mechanic, though I do have a pretty good understanding of how things work including engines. Hopefully I'll be able to put the 48cc kit together on my schwinn cruiser(panther)and let you know how it turns out. The people in here seem very nice and helpful, so I'm sure I will be asking questions and looking for good suggestions.
Thanks for the welcome, Travis Jacksonville, FL

Travis and Joe- welcome.
You don't have to be a mechanic to get these babys on the road. They are pretty easy to work on/maintain, very easy to enjoy.....so, ENJOY!

Thanks for the welcome. I shared your site with some people here at the office, and they said your bike's where the coolest thing they ever saw! A few them even showed some interest in getting one. I'm getting one for sure.

It arrived. I couldn't sleep that night. I unpacked it, got prepared to install for the next day. 3-4 hours work and only a few snags (coaster style footbrake). Tah-dah a fine piece of machinery, pics to follow. Very pleased. Thank you for all of the pre-existing info in the forum, and the install manual from spooky tooth.
Now that everything is together, I realized I am going to need to change tire size because the chain is ever so lightly touching the rear tire....fine for a couple of miles but will cause a problem down the line. I just can't help riding it until then....too fun.

EXELLENT! If the tire rubs lightly, and you don't mind a little grease on the sidewall, you can run the tire you have. The Spookytooth instal guide is a goody, but I'll second the notion that fitting one on a coaster brake bike is a biotch....the first time anyhow. My first one (ebay kit I put on an old Murray) took me 12 HOURS!!!!! Of course I had to take the engine apart and look inside, re-do all the gaskets and a bunch of other stuff, just because I'm a tweaker.......
