doing it myself 2008/06/25 07:49 Karma: 2
Hi Everyone,

I' going to try to put this thing (48cc) together myself! I've told the guys that I work with about it and you should have seen their eyes light up!!! New toy ... it's mine, and until I screw it up, hands off fellows.

I'd like to think I could be starting a new "green" trend in the area. But I'm not ... this is all about me. Sorry. I'm reverting back to childhood and I love it.

I'm taking photos. A zanny, female, look at how these things go together. Hopefully I'll post them soon (not my strong point).

Hats off to ya,
Josie

PS First hang up ... I have a cruiser ... needs bigger hole (has about 1 1/2", mine needs about 1 5/8") in the center of the sprocket and bolt holes counter sunk! Takin' to the man tomorrow.

Hey no shame in getting a little help with something like this CFWD- Just stay involved and don't let anyone take your project over!

Good luck. Looking forward to seeing the bike!

Thanks for wishing me luck. Looks like I'm going to need it! I've already had a fit or two, but haven't kicked anything across the yard yet.

I got the sprocket on there and the wheel back on the bike. I have a little clicking sound now. I think it's the (bike's original/brake) chain and the teeth of the pettle sprocket, but I haven't narrowed that down just yet. SLACK?

I'm going to have to do the modified bracket for the motor. Fun! Fun! Not to mention it's a little white trash looking.

So far I'm having fun with it. I just got back from Wal-mart ... had to buy a gap tester. Has anyone else noticed that there are two different measurements listed in the site's Installation Manual? .038 and .036. I'm thinking shoot for somewhere in the middle. TIP! Read all instructions first. I think I could have saved $25 on a machinist if I had read the site's manual REAL close!

Motor Tomorrow!
Josie

PS Anyone going to Rocklahoma? 5 days starting July 9th, pass is about $150. 80's rock! Firehouse, Jackyl, Ratt, Dokken, Sebastian Bach, Night Ranger, Warrent, Tesla, Queensryche just to name a few! I think you can check it out at www.rock.feverfest.com.

PS What does CFWD mean? Looked it up and all I can find is Call Forward.

Here's a photo of the bike before I started messing with it. I've taken all the stickers off ... Surfer guy! Around these parts the only thing that gets surfed is a minivan.

My pal Maddy is hanging out on the roadrunner.

check next message for photo ... I'm screwing up somehow

I wished I have read your post sooner, could have made life a lot easier with that coaster brake wheel and the large tube modification.

I have build a couple with the coaster brake and I just took the dsust cap off and ground the flange off the edge then bent the brake arm...didn't nee to bore anything or use counter sunk/flathead bolts.

Maybe next time....

What kind of scooter is that? I have an '02 Yamaha Vino Classic 50cc.

BJ, thanks! <--- tell me that looks right?

Thanks for the clarification on CFWD. I happened to ask my daughter (15) last night too. First reply was, "doekno"! Then about thirty minutes later while I was messing with the tank she wanders through, while texting, and says "CFWD means crazy female woman driver". She's 15 and I'm completely STUPID, we have that understanding right now!

The scooter is Roadrunner brand named, but from what I've been told it must be made by Yamaha. I just had to buy a new battery and had to go throught a dealer that sales Yamaha products. It's a 49cc and pulls about 35 on the flat. Bogs down on hills pretty bad, but it's fun and doesn't have to be tagged (over 50cc in AR does).

Thanks for the site info ... I'll check it out. I really like this site for some reason.

Fixin to go work on motor,
Josie

Josie...

I have four daughters and not too long ago they were all teens and all living under the same roof...I feel your (pain?)

A Road Runner is not made by Yamaha, but a close copy of it as are many Chinese "clone" scooters.

Oh yeah, plug gap works best at .020-.024 and the drive chain like a little slack- 3/4" to 1".

Thanks for the info ... I'll take that plug back out and ajust that and I don't have the chain set yet. I have to go buy a Chain breaker! I did the finish nail and hammer number, but I don't guess I have a good enough wack.

That scooter was a 14th birthday gift to the girl. It's over a year old and has less than 200 miles on it.

Have one part that has me stumped ... What is it???

Oh yeah Bikeguy Joe, I signed up on the other site too.

I've got most of it done now. I just need to wire "him" up and align a few things. Of course it could all depend on what that mister part is! I may be doing a breakdown and rebuild next.

Off to checkout your site link then off to buy a chain breaker.

Oh thank goodness. I thought I was missing a step in one of the three manuals that I'm using to build this thing. Wasn't going to add gas and try him until I knew what it was ... Afraid "he" might BLOW UP!

Looked at your tips and plan to print those off. Looks like I need an air compress-a-ma-bobber, several types of cleaners, several greases, some seal RTV, Allen wrenches, and right now all I want is a chain breaker and can't find one! Bla! Bla! Bla!

I'm not sure I want to break into the motor all the way to clean as well as you suggest on this motor. I'm going to use it as a beginner and see if I can get the basics. My goal is to get it to start.

This motor stuff isn't too bad! My shoulder is sore from that wheel sproket process. My back has a catch from all the sitting on the floor and on a bucket. But a bottle of Vitamine "I" will get me through it ... I'm all smiles!

I'll try to load a latest ... remember I'm not done ...

Done ... and started it and it worked!!! I still need to fine tune it. Runs a little ruff!

I've posted all my photos on my myspace site http://www.myspace.com/ftsmjosie

For those interested in getting one of these ... do it! It's not that hard. And it's a load of fun. I have sole bragging rights on this baby. I didn't have to have any help and I'm the only one that I know that has one!!!

Your Bike turned out really nice Josie, Certainly is an accomplishment to be proud of. Looks like you did a wonderful job on it.

I just bought a new MB, (Cheap roadmaster from Wally World)and my motor is on its way, Can't wait to install it, I hope it turns out as well as your bike has. I would hate to be showed up by a girl. =p (Just Kidding). My hats off to ya, Randy
