power band 2008/09/01 13:20 Karma: 0
am i running my 80cc engine in its power band? it runs good out of the blocks but then starts to "four stroke". if i have a really long stretch to run to get the revs up it seems to power through it, but it really has to get rippin. i'm running a 36 tooth rear sprocket. should i put on the 44t?

Rickdic,
I'm 6'1", 225, and I 'run' a 30 tooth sprocket on a limo frame with an 80cc.
I experience the same phenomenon: during acceleration, the engine is in it's sweet spot(it likes the pressure) then we level off, cruising at 40ish and it starts to "four stroke". This is it's resting time(it likes to rest, also) Then we hit the hills and it's back to the sweet spot or the power band as some like to call it.

This is all normal for this style of engine.
Enjoy the band,
Spooky
