Engine Virbration 2008/08/22 10:14 Karma: 0
Hey guys,

Today I suddenly seem to have a high vibration when going at higher speeds a revening the engine.

When I rev the engine it seems to vibrate pretty bad. If I keep it at a steady slower speed its sounds fine. also sometimes when at a certain speed and then let go of the throttel, it will do the same kind of vibrate.

At first I though it was something on the bike itself, but seems to actually be the engine.

Please help

Hello there,

Well after opening the engine and checking around. I found nothing wrong. Trying to put back together I broke the piston rings and had to order new ones and then put them in correctly. I lined them up with the pins in the piston. DUH!! I failed to do that before. Broke one trying mabey flex it a bit to seem if it would help and then broke the other geting it off the piston. Stupid me

Anyway after getting everything back together, I just happened to look down and over. One of the back mounting studs was missing. After taking the motor off, Looking closer, I relized that the the stud actually broke off and did not just fall out as I thought. I had to drill out the hold and then re tap/thread it. I ended up doing both so they match and could use bolts from The home depot (1/4 size) instead of having to order and wait again. engine mount studs would probebly not hold anyway since I had to drill out the one hole and use a tap to rethread

Everything is back to normal now. I wish I noticed the missing stud before I took the engine apart. I was not able to ride for a week waiting for the ring shipment and then the second week.........Rain.....Dang monson seasons in Arizona LOL

Bottom line. The engine was just shaking on the frame due to the missing stud or should I say broke off stud.

Loctite is your friend...and so is lead. I mount all mine with lead sheet between the mounts and the frame- 4 pcs.

What does the lead do between the motor and frame.....Act as a cushion maybe????Good one....I roughed up the frame and the space on the motor where it contacts the frame to help keep it from slipping or moveing....

I research sound deadening, and found that lead was the best. I figured since vibration is sound is vibration, I would try some 1/8" sheet I had here in the shop....it work great.

I think my motor is finally breaing in...It has smoothed out some, plus I drilled out the main jet 2 drill sizes bigger as I have modified the air filter housing and the exhaust..Takes every bit of throttle without a bog and keeps pulling till the bike starts to get twitchy,lol...
Thanks alot for the info,
Paul....
