planning on getting one 2008/09/25 21:01 Karma: 0
hello ladies and gents,

i have been browsing the store for about 2 months making up my mind for which cycle to buy (this is only regarding the gas powered bikes). i really don't know a thing about this and i wanted to ask a couple of questions for the experts.

1) since this motor runs on a mixture of gasoline and oil, would i be able to mix synthetic oil with premium gasoline to give the motor more life (or pep)?

2) i also will probably only have time in the weekend to put the bike together, how long would you say it takes to fully assemble the bicycle?

3) another question would be, since the bikes come with the linear pull breaks, is it possible to install disc brakes on the same wheels?

that would be about it.
thanks for the help, i look forward to getting one of these.
cheers

always good to ask before you buy...

1)my step mom works at bp which is basically arco and says that premium gas has no real difference from the "cheap" stuff. so its really based off of your preference. i like to save money.

2)depends on if your building it from the ground up. how much free time do you have?

3)i think that installing a disk brake would only work on the front tire. but it depends on what kind of forks you have. i have the old school brakes and have no problem slowing down

good luck!

mangomike,

thanks for the info, i really thought getting expensive gas made a difference, but now i know cheap is good too. thanks.
i do have very open weekends, so i might just be able to finish it in one weekend (hopefully).
i also have an oldschool cruiser and thought that because of the motor and going down hills (specially since i have a lot where i live) i needed the extra stopping power.
again thanks for your help, very informative.
cheers

yeah i might put on a disk brake onto my front tire but not anytime soon. only reason i would only put it on the front is because with all of the extra stuff on the back tire you really dont have any play with it. but i do have a long drawn out hill in my path to work and squeezing the brake and back pedaling works just fine. good luck with your project, and enjoy all the heads you turn.

If you use regular, you will actually get a minute amount of extra omph...tech term there fo'sho'. This is because the lower grade gas burn FASTER than the high test stuff.

These engines have a compression ratio of 6.5 to 1 as far a s I can tell. They will run on some pretty bad gas.
Figure 8-12 hours and you can finish your first bike in a day.

Brakes? What brakes? I live in BFE....I have had coaster brakes on all my builds so far and I am alive.
