riding in winter,need running temp 2008/11/07 23:11 Karma: 0
im up here in michigan.im going to ride mine in the winter.ive allready rode it in thirty degree weather.what i did was covered the head with cardboard to block the cold air.i was wondering if you new the running temp of the motor so i can fabricate a shield and check the temp on the outside of the motor,so i dont overheat it.

wrap it in foil and poke some holes in it until you get the right temp.

I'm riding mine all winter. Do you have to cover the motor to keep it warm?
It runs good for about 4 seconds then cuts out for about 4 seconds until it gets warmed up. I have to use half choke for a while in the morning.

Are these Chinese 2 strokes really that finicky in cold weather? I mean after all it is a hot running air cooled engine, wouldn't cold weather actually be beneficial? I know my chainsaw (also 2 stroke) works fine for hours on end in weather that gives me snotcicles...Someone in the know please answer if you can...Thanks, Scott

I would say that it all depends on how close you are to lean running in the heat...So when it gets cold it will run even leaner because of the cool air intake...JMO...
I run mine rich in the summer so I don`t have that problem when it gets cool in the winter months(IN FLORIDA)LOL.....Running rich also helps to keep the motor cooler, but with a sacrifice(not as fast)....

how do you adjust lean and rich fuel mixture? r u just talking about amount of oil in gas?i would think your speaking on how much fuel in the air right?

You adjust these carbs with the "C" clip on the slide needle.
Move it up for leaner running, down for richer. One notch at a time please.

You CAN make slight adjustments to your running mixture by adjusting the oil to fuel ratio.

More oil makes the RUNNING mixture leaner.
Less oil makes the RUNNING mixture richer. Don't go too much either way!

What is the "C" clip on the slide needle?
All I see is a set screw on one side and the choke on the other side.

The clip is WAAAY inside of the carb. itself....not on the outside...I even drilled my main jet 2 sizes bigger to richen it up too...
