Extra Parts 2008/11/06 07:17 Karma: 0
So why do I have extra parts?

In the kit there are a couple of threaded things. They look like they might go on an axle. In the picture of the kit they are next to the spark plug wrench that should be thrown away.

Another note on the picture of the kit, I wish I got the sprocket shown, the one I got is flat (well almost flat it was a little warped) with no ridge around.

Someone might want to take a look at what the kit looks like now, a number of parts look different. I know kits change, but the sprocket wouldn't have been warped if it was the one shown. There is some "T" thing (next to the fuel valve) and looks like a second kill switch (below the left hand grip) in the in the pic

I did manage to get the bike up and running. I think I will have to come up with a chain tension solution, right now I have a tight chain without the tensioner in place.

I may have to move the rear wheel left, but I don't have much room to work with.

Thank goodness my neighbor had a bracket to mount the front of the engine to the thick frame on my bike.

I made it around the block a couple times and a "big trip" 2.5 miles. It was rather scary, but fun.

I'm not complaining, except maybe about the sprocket, I'm just saying that we don't get what is in the picture.

The "extra part" is actually a tool that you may need someday, don't shitcan it.

Not sure about the T thing, could be anything, got a picture?

Don't overtighten your chain, I see a lot of people run them tight, then wonder why they have problems with them. Why couldn't you use the tensioner?

So what are those extra parts called.

As far as the spark plug wrench that goes in the recycle bin. I don't think I have seen a more cheaply made one in my life.

The "T" thing is what is in the picture of the kit here on the site.

My kit also came with a couple of extra parts that I couldn't figure out what to do with. There were 2 threaded pieces, one is a square-head bolt (about 1/4" and the other is a inside and outside threaded ... thing (not sure what to actually call it) that looks vaguely like a 1/2" - 3/4" pipe connector of some sort (except for the external threads). The outside of that piece has 2 threaded sections, one about 1/4" larger in diameter than the other. The entire "outside" piece (the one the bolt fits in) and the bolt itself appear to be made out of the same type of steel as the clutch assembly parts.

If anyone can tell me what these parts are I'd be highly appreciative.

The mysterious part in question is called a puller.

It's used to pull the countershaft sprocket off and also the clutch.

I sort of figured that that is what they were.

I did finish the bike and am pretty damn happy. For my experience: http://lordoflightaz.com/solar/bicyclepart1.html

The mysterious part in question is called a puller.

I discovered that while I was replacing gaskets yesterday. Although, that puller seems to have damaged the threads on my clutch gear shaft. Not sure what I'm going to do about that, I can't get the nut over the first thread.

Try turning the nut over and thread in onto the shaft with that side,.....Mine did the same thing and boogered up the threads on the nut, not the shaft....The nut is made with softer metal than the shaft ,and would most likely mess up the nut threads.....
